Selling on eBay has been around a long time, but nothing creates more profit in any marketplace than knowing what you’re doing, whether you do auctions or you open a storefront on eBay.
Some Tips for Volume selling on eBay
- Many volume eBay sellers sell smaller items or items of a uniform size. Small items have the distinct advantage of reduced shipping costs, and of being easily packaged. Likewise, items of the same or similar sizes (such as DVDs) are easily packed using 6X10 bubblewrap and all weigh about the same. Saves time in the shipping and handling department. These types of items can also allow for an increase (and thus a profit) on the rates charged to customers.Check the eBay competition: If you find your closest competitor is selling 10,000 items, and there is nobody behind him, you can do it. On the other hand, trying to sell into the market where several sellers are competing for the top dog position is not recommended.
- Use a professional auction software such as EZLister or ChannelAdvisor. Other brands like Inkfrog offer a heck of a lot of the same features at a bargain basement price that will return larger profits. Trying to do volume selling via Turbolister is touch-and-go. But no matter what you use, make it simple and easy to deal with. Start slowly and get a system flowing.
- Create a professional-looking template for your auction sales. This not only automates the auction process for you, but it keeps your basic facts straight. Customers will buy from you with zero feedback as long as you appear to be running a professional company.
- Pick up an auction shipping solution such as Endicia and use it to process all postage. This will help you track as it keeps a log of what you have shipped.
- Get a program like Merlin Instant Feedback to return positive feedback after your customers have left positive for you.
- Ship on time. Don’t start by dilly-dallying around with your reputation. Nothing makes a buyer happier than getting what you sold him.
- Send a notice at every stop. After they buy the item, after you recieve the auction payment, after you ship the item. This goes a long way in customer satisfaction. When you first start out, personalize your auction emails so that they appear to be written to your customer from you. Saying things like “I shipped your item today” is simple and a great way to get personal with your customers. Bidders who think that you are a huge conglomerate will be more likely to leave you neutral or even negative feedback for any incompetancy that you may have. This is a great way to make it personal from the start.
